AURORA HOLIDAY HOMES
Aurora was orginally a Congregational Church.  A chapel was erected on the site in 1837, and enlarged in 1839.  The current structure was built in 1866 and it continued in use as a church for a further one hundred years.  Evidence of the gable end of the original chapel can be seen in the first photo below.

It was closed and sold in 1967, and was converted to a knitwear factory, and operated as Aurora Knitwear (Shetland) Limited for fourteen years, providing employment and boosting Shetland exports.

It was then converted to be the Walls Bakery, and this continued for over ten years until the new shop and bakery was built on the site of the old Waas shop.

"The Old Bakery" then slowly fell into disrepair.

The building was stripped out and after roof repairs in 2002, it was completely refitted to a high standard during 2010.
